Best known as ‘home to the Big Bogan’, the Shire offers the best of town and country. Bogan Shire is in the region’s north west, and serviced by Nyngan which sits at the junction of the Mitchell and Barrier highways on the Bogan River.
Mining and agricultural production, including livestock grazing and large-scale cropping, are primary economic drivers. The farming community is very close-knit, and the townspeople enjoy comfortable country living alongside the beauty of the bush.
There are numerous outdoor recreational activities in the region that include water sports such as boating, skiing and canoeing, athletics, sports, dancing among other things. There is also a shared pathway alongside the Bogan River which is popular with cyclists, walkers and joggers.
